If the world population was 100 people: Interesting statistics

According to the latest statistics, the world population has now reached 7 BILLION PEOPLE! There are SO many people living in the world today, it’s pretty hard to comprehend what that number even means. So… what if we took the world population and reduced that number down to only 100 people? Do you realize only 7 of these 100 would have a college education? Forty-eight of them would live on less than $2 USD per day and twenty-one of these people would be overweight!  A little easier to comprehend now, isn’t it?

Well, the people over at www.100people.org put together some interesting statistics that help us understand the demographics of people all around the world by reducing the world population down to 100 people. The findings below are pretty incredible:


If the World were 100 PEOPLE:

50 would be female
50 would be male


26 would be children
There would be 74 adults,
8 of whom would be 65 and older


There would be:
60 Asians
15 Africans
14 people from the Americas
11 Europeans

33 Christians
22 Muslims
14 Hindus
7 Buddhists
12 people who practice other religions
12 people who would not be aligned with a religion


12 would speak Chinese
5 would speak Spanish
5 would speak English
3 would speak Arabic
3 would speak Hindi
3 would speak Bengali
3 would speak Portuguese
2 would speak Russian
2 would speak Japanese
62 would speak other languages

83 would be able to read and write;
17 would not


65 would have have a secondary school education (middle/high school)
7 would have a college degree


1 would be dying of starvation
15 would be undernourished
21 would be overweight


48 would live on less than $2 USD per day
1 out of 2 children would live in poverty

It’s not the BEST shelter, but it IS shelter…

77 people would have a place to shelter them
from the wind and the rain, but 23 would not


30 would be active internet users
22 would own or share a computer
75 would be cell phone users


78 would have electricity
22 would not


87 would have access to safe drinking water
13 people would have no clean, safe water to drink

    Very eye-opening! I think what stood out most was the numbers for nourishment and clean water.
